MOSTOLES, MADRID

THE PROJECT

The goal of this project was to centralize and consolidate all of Repsol’s research and development laboratories, which were spread across multiple cities (Madrid, Cartagena, etc..) into a single centralized building.

THE NUMBERS

35.200 SQM

The project entails designing laboratory buildings and pilot plants spanning an area of approximately 35,000m2. The singularity of this projects is the challenge of creating a modern and visually appealing building that caters primarily to industrial purposes. We successfully merged two architectural sectors into one flexible and contemporary complex.

Located in the outskirts of Madrid, the site covers a vast area of 200.000m2 (20 has). The main building is divided in two areas, Administrative and Research. The first one equipped with offices, meeting rooms, boardrooms, an auditorium, a library, cafeteria and a restaurant and while the other one concentrates all scientific and research needs such as laboratories and plants pilots that contains the different research laboratories: gas, refining, chemistry, LATD, analytical, etc…

The design intent of this project was to create a building that truly embodies innovation and research, reflecting the forward-thinking mindset of Repsol. We aimed to design a modern and functional complex of high-tech buildings that would provide Repsol with a cutting-edge research infrastructure, enabling the group to tackle future technological challenges head-on.

We particularly embraced our design method in this project to create a unique and customized solution that caters to the current and future needs of our client.

The design criteria we focused on:

Flexibility and adaptability: We prioritized creating a design that can easily accommodate future changes in Repsol’s research and development programs. Additionally, the building has the potential for future expansion, with the ability to double its surface area during the second phase of development.

Quality and modern image: We strived to establish a visually appealing and contemporary aesthetic for the building. The surrounding environment was designed to be attractive, promoting a peaceful atmosphere that fosters creativity and communication among workers.

Functionality: Each space within the building was carefully planned to serve its specific purpose effectively. We ensured that all areas seamlessly integrate, forming a cohesive and efficient working environment for Repsol’s research activities.

Our ultimate goal was to create a remarkable building that not only meets Repsol’s current research requirements but also provides a platform for embracing future advancements and technological breakthroughs.
